At the outset, FM Muttaqi expressed appreciation for UNAMA’s condolences over recent earthquake victims and civilian casualties caused by Pakistan’s airstrikes in Khost and Kunar provinces.

Humanitarian Concerns and Civilian Protection

Ms. Gagnon expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of women, children, and other civilians due to the bombardments. She emphasized that international laws must be observed and civilians should not be harmed during conflicts. FM Muttaqi reassured that Afghanistan is committed to safeguarding civilians while addressing regional challenges.

Progress Under the Doha Process

FM Muttaqi highlighted the work of the two working groups under the Doha Process, stating that narcotics cultivation in Afghanistan has been reduced to nearly zero.
